Chili Ginger Shishito Peppers

I love Shishito peppers and I planted some in my garden this spring… boy oh boy! July came around and it was Shishito peppers galore. They make for a great snack or side (see my earlier post Grilled Chicken Wings with Shishito Peppers), and I find they are best with Asian flavors. So as you may be able to guess, our Healthy On You® Spice Spice Baby Asian 6 Spice blend is making another appearance.

Shishito peppers originated from Japan. They are relatively mild, but they say one in five may be super spicy. The ones from my garden are all very mild, but I have had super spicy batches in the past. You really don’t know what you’re going to get, until you try a few. I think that is the fun of it and keeps things spicy… pun very intended. Anyways, give this recipe a try. It is relatively easy and fast!

For the Sauce

Preparation

  1. Add all sauce ingredients into a bowl and whisk.

  2. Heat 1 tbsp sesame oil in a pan over high heat.

  3. Add Shishito peppers, stirring occasionally. Cook 6-8 minutes or until the peppers begin to blister.

  4. Pour sauce on top and stir.

  5. Cook for another 1-2 minutes.

  6. Remove from heat and serve.
